The idea for Echo of Deco first came about in the summer of 2004, while my Father, Malcolm Akerman was visiting my Studio Pottery in the North of England.
Over a period of two weeks we created various geometric Art Deco inspired vases, and the prototype design for our very first Manhattan mantle clock.
By the end of the holiday, and after several successful kiln firings, we had a small collection of pottery, which my father appropriately coined ‘Echo of Deco’. At that time Echo of Deco was just a name given to those initial pieces of pottery but even then we could see the potential, and an idea was beginning to form.

When looking back it was a serendipitous series of events that lead to the creation of Echo of Deco. I was already running a successful Studio Pottery selling hand thrown ceramics to various galleries, while my father was looking for a new hobby after retiring from working in the construction industry. As a family we have always been quite creative and for a long time my father had been particularly interested in Art Deco design. It was this combination of ‘Art Deco meets Studio Pottery’ that originally brought Echo of Deco Art Pottery into being.
Over the next couple of years Echo of Deco took on a life of own and has now grown into a collection of over 80 past & present designs. Echo of Deco is now collected in many different countries including most of Europe, North America and even the Far East. We have also been featured in various magazines, both here in the UK and overseas.
I now undertake the day to day running of Echo of Deco, but regularly work and discuss ideas with my father, who still contributes many exciting new designs to our collection.
